Curriculum Quality and Performance

UW places the highest emphasis on your academic preparation. They look for rigorous course loads (AP/IB) and strong performance, specifically in subjects related to your intended major.

Direct to Major Fit

For highly competitive fields like Computer Science and Engineering, UW admits students *directly* into the major. Your profile must explicitly prove your capability in these specific STEM fields.

Personal Context and Overcoming Adversity

UW's holistic review heavily weighs your background. They look at what opportunities were available at your school and how you maximized them, as well as any personal hardships you navigated.

Test-Blind / Test-Free: UW does *not* consider SAT or ACT scores during the holistic review process. They will not disadvantage you for not sending them, nor will they advantage you for sending high scores.

Regular Decision: November 15 (UW has a very early, single deadline. There is no Early Action or Early Decision).

No Letters of Recommendation are required or accepted, unless specifically requested by the admissions office.

Focus on activities that show a trajectory of commitment and impact. For CS/Engineering hopefuls, this means coding projects, robotics, or high-level math competitions.

Don't Miss the Deadline

November 15 is much earlier than most Regular Decision deadlines. You must have your application ready by early Fall.

The Allen School (CS) is one of the most competitive programs in the country, prioritizing Washington state residents. Out-of-state and international applicants must have truly exceptional STEM profiles to secure direct admission.

UW is ideal for independent, outdoorsy, and tech-focused students who want to study in a booming tech hub (home to Amazon and Microsoft) at a large, spirited public university.
