January 28, 2026 6 min read

Studying in the US can cost $350k+ over 4 years. For many, scholarships are non-negotiable.

The Tata Scholarship (Cornell):

Specifically for Indian citizens. Covers full tuition and living expenses for 4 years.

Selection: Highly competitive. They look for academic excellence + potential to contribute to India's development.

Need-Blind vs. Need-Aware:

Need-Blind (Rare): Harvard, Princeton, Yale, MIT, Amherst, Dartmouth. They don't look at your bank account when deciding admission.

Need-Aware (Most Schools): Asking for aid lowers your chances of admission.

Strategy: If you need a lot of aid, your profile needs to be stronger than the average applicant to justify the "investment" the college is making in you.
